QUAD

QUAD version 26_1 is an experimental 4+1 music installation featuring contributions from creatives across a wide range of musical genres—including sound researchers, contemporary music composers, noise experts, and maverick figures from mainstream pop.
The base volume of QUAD is relatively low, allowing some sounds to emerge subtly from the silence. The audience is invited to enter the sound space in silence and allow the collaborative work to envelop them.
QUAD is more than just a compilation of individual musical contributions; certain sections and recurring themes were developed collaboratively. Initiator and producer C. Graupner (aka VOOV [HUMATIC]) deconstructs, recombines, and interweaves the various segments. The result is an unorthodox sonic tapestry woven from pieces and sound samples by renowned composers and musicians. Marian Gold (lead singer of Alphaville) and Renard provide the audio tracks for their dark anthem "Damn Happy," while Joao Pais contributes excerpts from his massive project "Imploded Aria"—in which elements of various Goldberg Variations emanate from each of the four speakers, coalescing into a new, expansive variation of the work.
Phoebe Killdeer and Ole Wulfers ([The Shift]) provide vocal improvisations set to works by hÄK and Pasquet, which VOOV transforms into distinctive a cappella arrangements. A studio experiment with German rapper YaneQ evolves into a warm beam of sound that binds together fragmented vocal and percussion parts. hÄK contributes pulsating bass tones at the lower limit of human hearing, "upcycling" the sonic refuse of the digital age into an abstract listening experience. VOOV tests the space with "vocal fry" and creaking *musique concrète* signals, incorporating spatially placed vocal samples: "left-turner, right-hooker, side stitch, mittelschmerz..." In the track "Bingo," VOOV remixes Wulfers’ modular sounds and Killdeer’s magnetic vocal gift, deliberately imbuing the mix with a sense of accidental mishap.

Due to simple technical and spatial requirements, QUAD can easily be adapted to a variety of spaces. The work is thus ready for performance in suitable venues. Please contact us for bookings or further questions.

…ist eine experimentelle 4+1 Musik-Installation, mit Beiträgen von Kreative aus den unterschiedlichsten Musikgenres…darunter Klangforscher, Komponisten zeitgenössischer Musik, Noise-Experten und aufmüpfige Vertreter der Mainstream-Popmusik. Die Grundlautstärke von QUAD ist relativ gering, so dass sich einige der Klänge subtil aus der Stille herausschälen. Das Publikum ist gebeten, den Klangraum schweigend zu betreten und sich vom Gemeinschaftswerk ‘in die Mitte nehmen’ zu lassen. QUAD ist mehr als eine Zusammenstellung einzelner Musikbeiträge. Einige Werkteile und rote Fäden wurden gemeinschaftlich entwickelt. Der Initiator und Produzent C.Graupner alias VOOV [HUMATIC] zerlegt, re- kombiniert verwebt die Teilstücke. So entsteht ein unorthodoxes Klang-Geflecht aus Stücken und Soundsamples namhafter Komponisten und Musiker. Marian Gold der Alphaville - Sänger und Renard liefern die Audiospuren zu ihrer Düster-Hymne “Damn Happy“ und Joao Pais Auszüge aus seinem Mega-Projekt "Imploded Aria”, in dem aus jedem der vier Lautsprecher, Elemente verschiedener Goldberg Variationen tönen und zu einer neuen raumgreifenden neuen GB-variante zusammenwachsen. Phoebe Killdeer und [The Shift] Ole Wulfers liefern Vokal-Improvisationen zu Werken von hÄK und Pasquet, die VOOV zu eigenwilligen Acapella verstöpselt. Aus dem Studioexperiment mit dem Deutsch-Rapper YaneQ entwickelt sich ein warmer Klangstrahl, der gebrochene Vocal-und Pecussionsparts zusammenhält. hÄK liefert pulsierende Basstöne am unteren Ende der Hörschwelle und und “upcycelt” den klanglichen Abfall des digitalen Zeitalters zu einem abstrakten Hörerlebnis. VOOV testet den Raum mit “Vocal Fry” Knarr-Stimmen, knarzenden “Musique-Concerte”-Signalen und bindet positionsbezogene Sprachsamples ein: “... Linksabbieger, Rechtsausleger, Seitenstechen, Mittelschmerz…”. Im Track "Bingo" remixed VOOV bewusst unfall-behaftet Wulfers’ Modular-Sounds und Killdeers magnetisches Stimm-Geschenk.
